MLK2020 Week of Service
Volunteer opportunities and events across the San Francisco Bay Area will be hosted by dozens of community partners in the week leading up to and on the MLK2020 Holiday to honor Dr. King's legacy. From planting trees, library events, conducting homeless outreach walks, to hosting a financial literacy event for youth, the Norcal MLK Foundation invites you to join in this impactful celebration of community and service.

Project Homeless Connect
Homeless Outreach Walk
Norcal MLK Volunteers will join Project Homeless Connect to conduct an outreach walk to meet our neighbors where they are with compassion, resources, and community referrals. Hygiene kits and socks will also be distributed to those who need them.
Climate Action Now!
100 Trees For MLK2020
Norcal MLK Volunteers will join Climate Action Now and SF Public Works to plant 100 Trees over 2 days on the Sunset District medians. This community-led urban forestry program is cultivating the next generation of climate leadership in San Francisco.
Aquatic Park Clean Up
Norcal MLK Volunteers will join Shark Stewards in their continuous work to protect the oceans, sharks and all marine life by joining in the Aquatic Park Clean Up.
Nursery & Trail Maintenance
Norcal MLK Volunteers will join Sutro Stewards. Volunteers work on trail building & maintenance, take park in habitat improvement projects like weeding and planting, and care for native plants at our on-site nursery. Rain or shine!
Yerba Buena Island Stewardship
Norcal MLK Volunteers will join the monthly Yerba Buena Island Public Stewardship program hosted by TIDA (Treasure Island Development Authority and SF Environment. Work includes using hand tools to plant native species, remove invasive plants and restore native plant habitat; and a Clipper Cove Beach Clean Up.

Youth Community Stewardship Day
SF Youth Works will join LEJ to take part in a service learning program through volunteerism. LEJ continues its vision of connecting a generation of youth - tomorrow's leaders and decision makers - to formative experiences, today.
Brookdale Community Garden at Sunnydale Public Housing
Norcal MLK Volunteers will join Urban Sprouts at Sunnydale Public Housing. Volunteers will build and install an herb bed; install a fruit orchard; landscape; perform general gardening tasks; install shade and wind barrier; create educational signage; and build a compost bin.
SF Park & Rec Department
Mission Dolores Park
Norcal MLK Volunteers will join SF Park & Rec Department and Friends of Dolores Park in a neighborhood project at Dolores Park. Volunteers will work with existing neighbors in cleaning up litter and other park beautification projects.
Hands on Banking Experience
Youth will participate in the Hands on Banking Experience. Each student is randomly assigned a budget profile, where they're given an income, career and family situation. With their budget profile and worksheet, they visit 13 different stations that mimic real-life monthly expenses, including transportation, housing, insurance plans, groceries, child care, etc. As they progress through the exercise, they're able to compare needs vs. wants.
Neighborhood Clean Up
Norcal MLK Volunteers will join SF Public Works & SF Rec and Park Departments for a clean up in the Civic Center/Tenderloin community.
SF Park & Rec Department
Visitacion Valley Greenway
Norcal MLK Volunteers will join SF Rec and Park and Friends of Visitacion Valley to conduct habitat restoration activities within the Vis Valley Greenway.
Surfrider Foundation San Francisco
Cigarette Butt Receptacle Installation/Clean-Up
Norcal MLK Volunteers will join in with the Surfrider Foundation HOTYB program to install cigarette butt receptacles across the neighborhood as well as conduct a clean up.
